Creative City is all about using art to stimulate learning. We encourage our K-5 students to use painting, drawing, building and more to immerse themselves in a journey of imagination and discovery. Not only is art fun to create, but it also engages the senses and stimulates learning. At our tuition-free K-5 public charter school in Baltimore, we feel this is crucial for early childhood development. Hands-On Learning on Another Level We believe students have the most fun when they have the freedom to create and explore their creative sides. And the more fun they have, the more engaged they are with learning. When our 5th graders participate in "makers" programs, they learn about design, engineering and experimentation while creating projects of their very own. They also learn how to teach because they must demonstrate what they’ve learned to 4th graders (and 4th graders to 3rd graders, etc.). When our students draw posters to "get out the vote," they also learn about the importance of civic duties and history. These are just a few ways art helps our students think critically. At our tuition-free public charter school serving grades K-5, our curriculum is challenging and fun. It aligns with state standards while being unique enough to get our students excited about learning. Student-Led Creativity & EngagementA big fan of murals, Creative City encourages our students to paint and express themselves (which also helps develop motor skills by using paint brushes and other art supplies). We know that painting helps students learn to collaborate and solve problems creatively. We also know that when done in a group, painting helps stimulate discussion around culture and deepens understanding. This is also why we take field trips to galleries and museums—to inspire students to think outside the classroom and question the world around them. Creative City students are encouraged to let their imaginations run wild. Why? Because we know that incorporating art into K-5 education has numerous benefits. Our teachers and staff provide unique ways for students to process information to make it fun, which keeps them more engaged and focused in class. By weaving art into our teaching style, we help students develop many life skills like creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This is artistic intelligence--the ability to use creativity to solve problems and think critically about the world around you. Interested in enrolling?
